Geologické práce, Správy (Geological studies, Reports) is an open access peer-reviewed journal, published by the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr since 1954. The aim of the journal is to inform about the latest research results from all disciplines of geology (regional geology, tectonics, stratigraphy, paleontology, petrology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, engineering geology, economic geology, geophysics, structural geology and related topics). It publishes original research papers, review articles, and short communications with special focus on researchers from the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr; however, papers from other geological organizations are welcomed as well. Articles are published in Slovak or Czech with English abstract and summary.

Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers. Authors must recommend three or more potential reviewers when submitting their paper. Submitted manuscript is initially evaluated by the editor (and an additional expert from the editorial board if necessary) who assess if the manuscript meets the criteria and manuscript guidelines. Reviewers are selected by the editorial board based on the reviewers’ competence, and expertise, also considering possible conflicts of interests. Names of the reviewers may be kept from the author if they wish to remain anonymous (blind peer review).

Publication Frequency
The journal is being published twice a year, usually in the 2nd and 4th quarter.

Journal is published only in Slovak and therefore all information, including the Instruction to the authors and Publication ethics, are primarily in Slovak language. Only basic information about the journal are in English.

Necessity of publishing the results of geological investigations done by the State Geological Institute in scholarly journals was required already during its formation in 1940. First publication was therefore published under the supervision of D. Andrusov as the Práce Štátneho geologického ústavu (Studies of the State Geological Institute). Series was published as individual parts – booklets (1–25), later renamed as a Geologické práceZošit (26–64) in the years 1950–1964.
In the year 1964 the Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr in Bratislava estabilished new edition called Geologické práce, Správy (Geological studies, Reports). The Geologické práce, Správy, is the only continually published edition on the State Geological Institute until today. The role of the journal was to inform the professional public about the latest research in all disciplines of geology. In the early years of the Geologické práce, Správy articles were published in Slovak language with short foreign language abstract and summary. Only later some articles were published in a foreign language. Since the number 100, the journal comes in A4 format.
The scientific editors of the journal Geologické práce, Správy were gradually M. Maheľ (no. 1–8 and 14–40; in 1954–1956 and 1958–1961),
E. Brestenská (no. 9–13; in 1956–1958), O. Samuel (no. 31–87; in 1961–1988), M. Slavkay (no. 88–92; in 1988–1991), J. Lexa (no. 93–97; in 1991–1993), D. Vass (no. 98–99; in 1994), M. Rakús (no. 100–102; in 1995–1996), P. Kováč (no. 103–104; in 1998–2000) and L. Šimon (no. 105–129; in 2001–2016). O. Pelech is scientific editor since the year 2017. Journal is available on the website of State Geological Institute since the number 114. New papers are immediately published on the website since the number 120.
