eGovernment in Slovakia began its journey in 1995 with the adoption of Act No. 261/1995 Coll. on public administration information systems. eGovernment or informatization (electronicization) of society is based on the principle of using information and communication technologies within public administration institutions.

One of the main goals of the GeoIS project was the construction of the eGeo.sk portal, which forms the gateway to secured electronic public administration services under the competence of SGIDŠ.

The eGeo.sk portal is intended for public administration performance:

  • to citizens and natural persons who should have the opportunity to use several online services with selected data about their city, municipality or region,
  • to municipalities, cities and regions, which can use direct electronic communication in a simple way and without entrance costs,
  • to legal entities and organizations, including public administration bodies and institutions, which can use the services just like citizens.

Most of eGeo.sk’s services are fully automated, thanks to which it is possible to handle the given request much more efficiently than using the old “paper” method, which makes processes in all areas more efficient.
