Headquarters of the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr – Bratislava

The State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr, as a departmental scientific and research institute under the authority of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, is a contributory organisation responsible for geological research and exploration of the territory of the Slovak Republic, the development of the geological information system as part of the state information system, the registration and recording of activities related to geological works, the collection, registration and provision of access to the results of geological works carried out in the territory of the Slovak Republic, the operation of the Central Geological Library, and the publication and sale of maps and specialist geological publications.

The State Geological Institute bears the name of the prominent geologist of Slovak origin, Dionýz Štúr.

Regional Geological Service Sliač

The Regional Geological Service Sliač is a workplace of the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr operating primarily in the region of central Slovakia. The workplace is located on the premises of the Sliač Spa and, in addition to professional geological activities, also focuses on making geological knowledge accessible to both the professional community and the general public.

Regional Geological Service Spišská Nová Ves

The Regional Geological Service Spišská Nová Ves carries out geological work related to geological research and exploration projects, primarily in the regions of central and eastern Slovakia. Professional activities in economic geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology, environmental geochemistry, geophysics and 3D geological modelling, as well as activities related to the management of geological data within the information system of the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr, are carried out by staff of the Department of Geology and the Department of Informatics.

The Geoanalytical Laboratories in Spišská Nová Ves serve as the Reference Laboratory of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic for geology and the analysis of geological materials and the geological environment, and provide analytical testing for various geological and environmental projects.

Regional Geological Service Košice

The staff of the Regional Geological Service participate in geological projects focused on geological, hydrogeological, engineering-geological and mineral deposit research and exploration, the investigation of geological factors affecting the environment, technological research of mineral raw materials, and research in the field of environmental protection and development, not only in the region of eastern Slovakia but also in other parts of the country. In addition to projects carried out at national level, a significant part of the workplace’s activities is associated with the preparation and implementation of international projects.

Geological Material Documentation Repository Bratislava – Galvániho 18 (Trnávka)

The repository consists of eight storage facilities in which 27,418 linear metres of drill core from a total of 1,625 boreholes are permanently stored on 849 pallets, together with 3,926 boxes containing approximately 500,000 documentation samples and duplicates of chemical analyses. Material awaiting processing is temporarily stored on 256 pallets and comprises approximately 15,360 linear metres of drill core. The repository also contains study collections comprising 8,120 rock specimens and 32,260 palaeontological specimens.

Geological Material Documentation Repository Kráľová pri Senci

The repository consists of two storage facilities in which 47,418 linear metres of drill core from 3,088 boreholes are permanently stored on 814 pallets. In addition, approximately 800 metres of material awaiting processing are stored on eight pallets.

Geological Material Documentation Repository Betliar

The repository consists of two storage facilities in which 16,240 linear metres of drill core are stored on 313 pallets, together with 96 sample boxes containing approximately 10,000 rock samples. In addition, approximately 5,900 linear metres of drilling material awaiting processing are stored on 118 pallets.
