The foundations of this monumental work were laid in 1990, when the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr (SGIDŠ) together with other natural science institutions submitted the project Research on geological factors of the environment. As a result of this long-term systematic research is a collective work Geochemical Atlas of Slovakia, of which seven parts were created gradually between 1996 and 2015.
The application makes available the results of geochemical mapping, which monitored the distribution of chemical elements and regional radioactivity in the main components of our environment.
