Name of the atlas: Country Atlas of the Slovak Republic | Year of publication: 2002
This Atlas represents the most comprehensive cartographic work, which provides a comprehensive picture of the natural, cultural, economic and social conditions of Slovakia. It represents the culmination of scientific, professional and informational knowledge about the country at the beginning of the 3rd millennium. 367 domestic and foreign experts from 85 institutions collaborated on its creation. It is a broadly conceived work that seeks to capture the transformation of the country from ancient times to the present, but does not shy away from the future either. The aim of the Atlas of the Slovak Republic was not only to document the development and state of the country to date, but also to comprehensively evaluate it as a source for the sustainable life of society, to determine its potential, to identify the limits of territorial development and to present the country as a living space for future generations. It contains a number of map works at a scale of 1:500,000 and smaller, map sections at large scales, graphs, tables and photographs. It is structured into 10 chapters: 1. Landscape and its depiction, 2. Development of settlement and map depiction, 3. Location, 4. Primary landscape structure, 5. Secondary landscape structure, 6. Population and its activities in the landscape, 7. Natural-settlement regions, 8. Protected areas and natural resources, 9. Stress phenomena in the landscape, 10. Landscape as a human environment.
The Atlas also includes maps that were created on the grounds of ŠGÚDŠ or in collaboration with authors from ŠGÚDŠ.
