Environmental monitoring is a key tool for ensuring its quality. It serves as a reliable basis for decision-making in the field of environmental management, planning of current activities and future intentions.

The goal of systematic observation is to objectively know the state of the environment and evaluate its changes in time and space. Measurements are carried out at points of the monitoring network, which represent the monitored territory and provide a comprehensive picture of the state of larger territorial units.

Partial Monitoring System – Geological Factors (ČMS GF)

ČMS GF is an integral part of the national Environmental Monitoring System of the Slovak Republic. It focuses primarily on geological hazards – harmful natural or anthropogenic (caused by human activity) processes that threaten the natural environment and humans.

Why is monitoring important?

Due to the action of natural forces, the number of extraordinary events and natural disasters, such as recurring landslides, has been increasing in recent years. Monitoring results provide critical information for taking measures and early prevention of these events, thereby protecting people’s lives, health and property.

Monitoring subsystems

Monitoring is designed as a multi-component, integrated and open system, which is divided into 8 separate subsystems:

  • 01 Landslides and other slope deformations

  • 02 Tectonic and seismic activity of the area

  • 03 Anthropogenic sediments of the nature of environmental loads

  • 04 Impact of mining on the environment

  • 05 Monitoring of radon volume activity in the geological environment

  • 06 Stability of rock massifs under historical objects

  • 07 Monitoring of river sediments

  • 08 Volumetric instability soils
