In the period from November 2006 to December 2013, the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr (ŠGÚDŠ) solved an important geological task: Updating the geological structure of problem areas of the Slovak Republic on a scale of 1:50,000.
Project objectives and methodology
The main objective was to evaluate the quality of older geological data, which served as the basis for the creation of a nationwide Digital Geological Map of the Slovak Republic at a scale of 1:50,000.
-
Territory classification: The territory of the Slovak Republic is divided according to the quality and timeliness of geological map data. Problematic areas represent areas with lower quality or outdated data.
-
Targeted research: A revision was subsequently carried out in these problem areas. Either all geological formations were remapped comprehensively, or attention was paid only to problematic formations (the rest was taken from older maps).
-
Benefit: The result is a refinement of the lithological, age and tectonic characteristics of geological formations incorporated directly into the digital map.
