The application provides a clear record and map display of mining works in the Slovak Republic. The data in the database comes from direct reports from the public and organizations, as well as from extensive archival materials.
Main purpose and functions of the application
-
Clear records: The application visualizes the location of old mine workings and mine workings, including their basic technical and localization attributes.
-
Link to the Geofond Archive: The attribution tables directly on the map include a link to the relevant final report stored in the Geofond Archive. Registered users can view these documents via remote access.
A look into the history of the project
The first digital version of the database of old mine workings (SBD) for the entire territory of Slovakia was created in 1996 as part of the geological task “Slovakia – proposal for the rehabilitation of old mine workings – prospecting survey”.
The main objectives of the project at that time included:
-
Search, document and inventory the occurrences of old mining works outside the currently designated mining areas (DP).
-
Evaluate their impact on the surrounding environment.
-
Propose specific measures for their rehabilitation (security) in cases where their technical condition or dangerous manifestations on the earth’s surface required it.
