Slovakia is proud of its centuries-old mining history. In order to preserve this natural wealth for future generations, the scientific workplaces of the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr (SGIDŠ) systematically document it and present it to the public.

🏛️ Technical cultural heritage: Extraction of mineral resources is not only an industrial activity. The used mining methods, machines, equipment and related technological buildings are an integral part of our history. Caring for them is one of the key tasks of science and museology.

💎 About the collection and online application

  • Focus: Representative samples of the main types of raw materials historically mined in Slovakia.

  • Location: Exterior (courtyard of ŠGÚDŠ Institute), with parallel digital version available online from June 2014.

  • Data structure: Each exhibit is marked with a separate metal plate with four key data:

    1. Name of mineral resource

    2. Practical use in practice

    3. Exact name of parent bearing

    4. Organization that performs mining on the deposit
