As part of the government project“Regional Geological Survey of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, Western Carpathians Section,”intensive mapping at a scale of 1:25,000 began at the Dionýz Štúr Geological Institute, with the goal of completing work on more than 600 map sheets by the end of the century. Based on these maps, Regional Geological Maps at a scale of 1:50, 000 have been compiled since 1972 and are still being published today. These maps have also been digitized as part of the Digital Geological Map of the Slovak Republic at a scale of 1:50, 000, which is available as a base geological layer on this portal as well.

The original clean drawings of the 1:25,000 maps were created as intermediate-scale maps, and some of them were published separately. The individual map sheets were submitted as part of the final reports to the GÚDŠ archive and to Geofond. All available maps, including the accompanying legends, have been scanned and can be viewed in this separate layer.
