This web application provides up-to-date information on the state of geological knowledge and mapping of the territory of the Slovak Republic. It was developed as part of a project carried out by the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr (SGIDŠ) between 2003 and 2005 (Káčer, Š. et al., 2005). The main objective of the project was to compile a digital geological map of the Slovak Republic at scales of 1:50,000 and 1:500,000 with an open, unified legend. The publication of geological maps on the web portal was carried out between 2005 and 2014 as part of the Geological Information System project (GeoIS).

🌐 What does the application offer?

The web application provides access to the following thematic layers:

  • List of base maps

  • Categorization (quality layer)

  • Mapping Overview

  • Structural Diagram

  • Geological Map

🗺️ The digital map’s areal information includes:

  • A unified and original legend

  • Characteristics of lithotypes

  • Occurrence of individual rock types in Slovakia

  • Option to view the original legend and jump directly to a specific occurrence

⚖️ Copyright and Liability

  • Intellectual property rights to the Digital Geological Map of the Slovak Republic (1:50,000) are held by the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr.

  • The license and copyrights to the work are owned by the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic.

  • Responsibility for the thematic content of individual geological maps (with the exception of necessary editorial adjustments made during the compilation of the digital map) lies with map authors and SGIDŠ.

  • The Slovak Geological Survey (SGIDŠ).
